SAN FRANCISCO -- A man in his mid 30s died late Wednesday night in San Francisco when the scooter he was on went over a highway barrier and onto the ground 35 to 40 feet below, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The crash occurred at 11:23 p.m. on northbound U.S. Highway 101 just south of the Ninth Street exit, CHP Officer Vu Williams said. Williams clarified that the man was riding a scooter rather than a motorcycle as initially reported.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, lost control of the scooter as he was on a sweeping left curve. He died at the scene, Williams said.
