Man who showed up at SFGH is person of interest in Sacramento homicide
SAN FRANCISCO -- A man who arrived at a San Francisco hospital with a gunshot wound on Monday night was initially believed to be shot in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood, but police said Wednesday he was instead a person of interest in a Sacramento homicide.
The person of interest, whose name has not been released, arrived at San Francisco General Hospital shortly before 10 p.m. Monday with gunshot wounds to the elbow and knee, according to police.
The man told police officers that he had been shot in San Francisco, but refused to provide further information, police said.
San Francisco police said on Tuesday that officers had initially heard gunfire Monday night at the intersection of Golden Gate Avenue and Jones Street and that shell casings and blood drops were found there, police said.
Police said today though that it does not appear that the victim was shot in the Tenderloin, but instead may have been injured in Sacramento during a homicide there.
Sacramento police officers responded to San Francisco General Hospital and interviewed the individual but did not take him into custody.
Sacramento police said officers had received a report of an unresponsive man in the 3600 block of Truxel Road at 8:34 p.m. Monday. The man was found lying in a parking lot following the sound of gunfire, police said.
Officers located the victim, a man in his 50s who appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts, police said.
Sacramento police said detectives have confirmed that the shooting is related to marijuana and is not a random incident. No other details about the case were immediately available today.
