MARIN, Calif. -- A former physician with Marin Community Clinics faces charges of possessing morphine, hydrocodone and codeine for sale and possession of medications without a prescription in Marin County last month.

Wendi Sue Joiner, 40, of San Rafael was charged in a 6-count complaint by the Marin County District Attorney's Office on Dec. 7. A preliminary hearing date will be set on Feb. 4 in Marin County Superior Court.

She was arrested on the drug charges by the Marin County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 4 and pleaded not guilty. The Medical Board of California suspended her medical license on Dec. 16.

She also was prosecuted in Sonoma County for misdemeanor DUI and drug possession offenses that occurred on Dec. 27, 2014.

She pleaded no contest in Sonoma County Superior Court in April, 2015 to misdemeanor DUI, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and was ordered to participate in a drug diversion program, according to court records.

The California Highway Patrol found whiskey bottles and nine boxes each containing 24 nitrous oxide dispensers and hydrocodone and acetaminophen pills in her vehicle when she was stopped for erratic driving in Sonoma County, according to the accusations filed against her by the Medical Board of California.

Joiner worked at the San Rafael campus of Marin Community Clinics in 2015 before her license was suspended.

Joiner's attorney Doron Weinberg declined to comment Friday afternoon on the allegations against her.
