RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- Crews have knocked down a massive fire at an auto yard on W. Gertrude Ave. at Richmond Parkway on Friday. The shelter-in-place order has been lifted in Richmond and El Cerrito.

Richmond Parkway is closed between Pittsburg and Gertrude avenues.

Officers are asking people to use an alternate route and the closure is expected to cause significant traffic problems because many drivers use Richmond Parkway to get between Interstate Highway 580 and Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond.

The CHP is asking people in the area to avoid breathing in the smoke, close windows and set their AC to recirculate.
