SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A federal magistrate judge has ordered a mental health evaluation for the San Francisco bomb suspect captured Monday after an FBI manhunt.

A public defender for 42-year-old Ryan Chamberlain II asked for the exam.

Police arrested the political and social media consultant at Crissy Field following a three-day search.

Police Chief Greg Suhr described Chamberlain as someone who was in crisis and getting "more desperate by the moment."

Investigators had found components needed to make a homemade bomb in his San Francisco apartment.

The FBI is not saying if Chamberlain had any plans for the items.

He has been charged with one count of possessing an explosive device. He has not entered a plea and is being held without bail.
