Officer shot in gunfight with carjacking suspect in Pittsburg
An Antioch officer was injured in a shooting following a chase that ended in a multi-vehicle crash in Pittsburg Wednesday afternoon.

PITTSBURG, Calif. (KGO) -- Four people were injured including an Antioch police officer following a car crash and shootout that law enforcement sources say is related to an earlier shooting in Antioch.

The Antioch police officer that was shot has been released from the hospital and the suspect responsible for the mess is in custody.

The seven-car crash and police-involved shooting occurred at 6:12 p.m. at Loveridge Circle and Leland Road.

"I heard a car crash, I run over there's smoke everywhere and I just heard gunshots, I hit the floor, there was about 15 to 20 gunshots," witness Myrdis Graham said.

Police said it started as a carjacking in Bay Point where a man allegedly stole a BMW. Then, an Antioch officer chased the suspect inside the vehicle just before the violent crash.

Police said when officers approached the BMW, the suspect opened fire and police responded by firing back. At least two bullet holes were seen on the windshield of a police cruiser.

The suspect was not injured and surrendered.

An official with Contra Costa Fire said there were at least four other people injured, one with gunshot wounds. The severity of the victims' injuries are unknown at this time.

Antioch Police say they are not identifying the officer or the suspect at this time.

Law enforcement sources say the man taken into custody is the same suspect involved in an earlier McDonald's drive thru shooting in Antioch, which was domestic dispute. A man in his 20s who was not the intended victim had minor gunshot wounds, but did not go to the hospital.
