SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KGO) -- A child predator is in an East Bay jail after police say he posed as a teenage boy on a social media app to lure a 13-year-old girl for sex.
Ian Teager is in jail, but police fear more possible victims are still out there, too scared to come forward.
The 41-year-old Patterson resident claimed he was a 14-year-old on the social media app, kik.
Police say a 13-year-old San Leandro girl believed it. The two chatted for weeks and he convinced the girl to meet him one day before school.
"Even when he showed up in his car, he was able to lure her away to get her to an East Oakland motel room where things went sour quickly," said Lt. Robert McManus of the San Leandro police department.
Police say Teager drove her to the Quality Inn off I-880 where she was sexually assaulted. The girl was able to escape and call for help.
"We know he's driven other places," McManus said.
Police believe the child predator has other victims too scared to report the crime.
"Please come forward. Talk to us about what happened to you," McManus said.
Forensic data expert AJ Fordella says every smartphone has restrictions parents can use to limit or block apps and websites used by their kids, but it's no replacement for a little common sense education and lots of questions from mom or dad.
"You've got to have a close relationship with your kids if you want to protect them in this day and age," Fordella said.
On its website, kik has safety guidelines for parents.
Teager will answer to his charges in court on Friday morning. null
