LOS ALTOS, Calif. -- A pedestrian who jaywalked across El Camino Real in Los Altos was struck by a car Monday night, but is expected to survive, a police sergeant said.

Around 9:20 p.m., a man walked south across El Camino Real near Sherwood Avenue and was struck by a Honda CR-V heading east, police Sgt. Brian Jeffrey said.

Officers arrived to find the pedestrian lying unconscious in a traffic lane, Jeffrey said.

The pedestrian was transported to Stanford Hospital, where he is in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, the sergeant said.

Investigators do not know the man's name because he did not have any identification with him, Jeffrey said.

The driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with officers, according to Jeffrey.

Officers also interviewed witnesses at the scene, he said.

The driver was not found to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision, Jeffrey said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the Los Altos police traffic unit at (650) 947-2770.
