San Francisco police said shortly after 4:20 p.m. that they were responding to an officer-involved shooting involving an outside agency. The incident occurred in the area of Capitol Avenue and Montana Street, according to initial reports.
Police say the shooting occurred when a suspect, who was driving a stolen van, tried to run over officers following a pursuit.
The suspect was shot multiple times and is in critical condition. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. A CHP officer from Redwood City was moderately injured and also transported to SF General with abrasions and a minor head injury, none of which was life-threatening. He was not shot.
Sources close to the investigation say this started out as an investigation into a stolen car auto burglary operation by the San Mateo County Task Force.
Daly City, CHP and other jurisdictions from San Mateo County were chasing a stolen white van and ended up in the Ocean View neighborhood. Sources say the van crashed into a home. A witness said a white van and another car were traveling at high speeds before crashing.
Police are currently investigating which agency fired shots. There was no gun found on the suspect and there was no exchange of gunfire.
