SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The highest-paid mayor in the state, San Francisco's Ed Lee, just got a big raise -- $24,000 more a year. It brings Lee's salary to $326,000 per year.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Lee's pay increase is more than double what the average city worker received this year.

Unlike city workers, elected officials receive raises every five years, set by the city's Civil Service Commission and based on the pay of similar positions in other Bay Area counties.

In comparison, the city's police chief, Bill Scott, makes $323,000 and the fire chief, Joanne Hayes-White, makes $317,000 a year.
