SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A San Jose pastor is recovering Tuesday after being brutally attacked right outside his home on Communications Hill in San Jose, a place known for its million dollar view and an increase in crime.
Donald Fareed, a pastor at Persian Ministry International, was attacked last week and he's still in pain and is forced to use a cane for support.
"I could be killed," he said. "My wife could be killed here."
He lives atop picturesque Communications Hill where many come to use the grand stairs for exercise, but at night things change.
The problem started when the pastor and his wife came home. It was around 10:45 p.m. The couple saw a car parked underneath a No Stopping sign after 9 p.m. They told the car's owner, "Hey, you might want to move your car because you'll likely get a ticket."
"He came toward me and hit me with his forehead to my forehead," Fareed said. "While I tried to pick up my wife, he hit me and he had a pipe in his fist."
The attackers used a ceramic smoking pipe to give the 52-year-old a black eye and bruised ribs.
Surveillance video shows the pastor and his wife being thrown to the ground. By the time they get up, the attacker and four of his friends had driven away.
"It's become a magnet for loitering, loitering leading to vandalism, and unsavory characters," Communications Hill resident Kelly Way said.
Police have taken a report and no arrests have been made.
