Search continues for Cal Poly student missing since 1996

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (KGO) -- Investigators have a new lead in the search for a missing Cal Poly student who disappeared 20 years ago after leaving a party.

The Stockton native was a freshman when she went missing in May 1996.

On Tuesday investigators started digging on a hillside near the Cal Poly "P" landmark that sits near campus.

Specially trained FBI search dogs led them to the location.

Investigators hope to give the family some closure.

"It is our hope and desire that this leads to some of the answers that we've been asking for the past 20 years as what happened to Kristin," said San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson.

Investigators are also looking at several other areas, but they aren't saying where those other areas are located.
