Search for missing Bay Area teacher in Rock Creek area

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has launched a search for a missing Bay Area teacher in the Rock Creek area of El Dorado County.

Police say Edward Cavanaugh, 46, was last seen on July 17 while riding his blue Yamaha YZ 250 in the Rock Creek trail system.

He parted ways with another rider and was planning to utilize the trail system to return to a residence he owns in the area, authorities say.

This trail system is int he Georgetown Divide area between the towns of Mosquito and Garden Valley.

Search efforts began Friday and include over 50 search and rescue volunteers from El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Alpine and Stanislaus counties.

Friends and family of Cavanaugh are searching the area as well.

He was last seen wearing Fox brand dirt bike riding clothing and a black helmet.
