San Antonio TV station publishes fatal officer-involved shooting online

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Controversy is swirling over the publishing of a video which shows officers in San Antonio shooting and killing a suspect.

The video from KSAT's website has sparked a feud on social media with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. The shooting happened Friday. KSAT published the video in its entirety Monday. Taken from a distance, it shows officer killing Gilbert Flores during a domestic violence call.

The Bexar County Sheriff is fired up with the agreement the news station allegedly made for exclusive rights to the video. The sheriff's office took to Twitter saying: "Broadcasting a man's death for $100 has sparked threats to our deputies' lives."

The sheriff's office also posted on Facebook: "These deputies have not been charged with a crime and a family lost their loved one. This is unethical and sad."

KSAT is getting a mix of opinions from viewers about the decision to air the video. Some are calling it irresponsible, others are writing: "We have a right to public oversight of public servants. The media should not protect them."

On its website, KSAT stated it made the decision after much discussion and it's up to viewers to make their own decision whether they watch it.

The sheriff's office and the district attorney are investigating the officers.
