UC Berkeley police chief victim of auto burglary in Richmond

The University of California at Berkeley police chief was the victim of an auto burglary Friday morning in Richmond, university officials said.

Chief Margo Bennett went for a run at Point Isabel Regional Shoreline and when she returned at about 8 a.m. she found her unmarked police vehicle had been broken into, according to the university.

University officials said the chief parked the vehicle in the shoreline's parking lot and went for the run before going to work.

The East Bay Regional Parks police and other agencies are investigating the burglary, according to the university.
