VACAVILLE, Calif. -- A Vacaville woman was sentenced to a lengthy prison term today for sexually abusing her 10-year-old son.

Michelle Victoria Souza, 43, was convicted of the continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams said.

Solano County Superior Court Judge E. Bradley Nelson sentenced her to 16 years in prison and a consecutive term of 25 years to life, Abrams said.

Souza forced her 10-year-old son to have intercourse with her beginning in December 2013 until he was 11 years old, Abrams said.

The boy's father found out about the sexual abuse from text messages on his phone and called police.

Souza claimed her boyfriend forced her to have inappropriate contact with her son but denied having sex with him, Abrams said.
