CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- The woman accused of attacking a Muslim man with hot coffee earlier this month has been suspended from her job.

A man and his friends say Denise Slader went after them because of their religion. They recorded the confrontation.

Slader works for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). The CDCR said it does not tolerate discrimination of any kind. Slader has been charged with battery and violating the victims' civil rights.

In related news, a group of Bay Area Arabs and Muslims says they've seen an increase in violent attacks and discrimination in the past few weeks.

The group rallied on the steps of city hall in San Francisco Friday.

They say the physical and verbal assaults have been aimed against youth, parents and families. Some say they don't feel safe right now going about their daily lives.

"Anybody that sees Islam or Muslims as one monolithic evil, foreign thing is denying that I exist, is denying that the people here on the steps of city hall today exist," said Sabiha Basrai of the Alliance of South Asians Taking Action.

The group says there's been a wave of anti-Muslim attacks since Donald Trump proposed banning Muslims from entering the United States.
