Three other students who are or were columnists for the campus newspaper, The Daily Californian, were at the party when the fire broke out.

One of those writers shared a story about going to the party with friends. They arrived early before the music had started and decided to go to a store for beer.

By the time they got back, the warehouse was in flames. The writer described flames shooting out of the windows and people on the sidewalk screaming and crying.

One of the other writers described being at the party and struggling to navigate a steep board with notches in it to get between the first and second floors.
