Salinas pedestrian pronounced dead at scene following hit-and-run

SALINAS, Calif. -- A 65-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning in Salinas.



Around 4:27 a.m. police responded to a report of a traffic accident involving a pedestrian near East Market and Kings streets, according to police.



Upon arrival, officers found a man in the roadway. He was unconscious and had no pulse, police said.



Emergency crews arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene.



Police believe the victim was struck as he was crossing East Market Street. A small, white pick-up truck, possibly a Toyota, was seen leaving the area, according to police.
