SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A disabled dog's wheelchair is missing and the family is now asking the public for help.

Buddha the 13-year-old pug is slowly losing the nerve function that allows it to walk. The family has to carry him for long distances and also up and down the stairs.

Earlier this month, someone stole the wheelchair from the street while the dog's owner was carrying him down the stairs.

The owner says without the wheelchair it is hard, for Buddha to move.

"It's is very uncomfortable for him, he's not able to go long distances at all," said owner Melissa Trevino. "With his wheelchair he could actually go two or three miles and he could keep up with our other dog. He was doing phenomenal. It was good to see him running again."

The family says the wheelchair cost them around $400.

They have set up a GoFundMe account to help get Buddha a new wheelchair.
