REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- An 8-week-old kitten found dyed an indigo color and likely used as a chew toy for a dog is recovering.

Nine Lives Foundation posted a video on Facebook of Smurf giving a new friend a massage and feeling better.

The foundation found Smurf covered in bite wounds and lacerations.

Officials said the kitten was taken to the San Jose rescue shelter to be treated.

Veterinarians said the kitten suffered no internal damage or infection.

Smurf will undergo surgery next week to repair his wounds.
