Anita Hill says Senate hearing into Kavanaugh could be 'sham'
Anita Hill is urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to push the pause button on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

WASHINGTON (KGO) -- Anita Hill is urging the Senate Judiciary Committee to push the pause button on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Hill told Good Morning America she supports Christine Blasey Ford's decision not to testify, until the FBI conducts an investigation.

"Absolutely it is the right move. The hearing questions need to have a frame, and the investigation is the best frame for that. A neutral investigation," Hill said.

In 1991, Hill testified that then-nominee and now Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas had sexually harassed her when they worked together at the Education Department in the 1980's.

Thomas denied those claims and there was an FBI investigation. It took only three days.

Hill told ABC she supports Ford's demand for an FBI investigation before a hearing Senate Republicans have set for Monday. Hill questions whether the Senate hearing "is going to be anything more than just a sham proceeding."

"We need to be able to believe in the integrity of our courts. And that means believing the integrity of those who are on it," Hill said.

In 1991 there were 14 Senators on the committee, all of whom were men. Democrats held a majority eight to six.

Today, the committee is bigger, with 21 members, four of whom are women, all Democrats. Republicans have a slight edge 11 to 10.

Some reports say if Blasey Ford eventually testifies, GOP senators may ask their female aides to question Ford, in this MeToo era.
