Crews suspend search for missing person who fell into water near SF's Pier 32; 1 person rescued

SAN FRANCISCO -- Authorities in San Francisco have suspended a search for a man who ended up in the water near two piers at the Embarcadero, the fire department said Sunday evening.

On Saturday at about 10:19 a.m., first responders from the San Francisco Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and police were sent to Piers 28 and 32 on a report of two people in the water.

One adult was rescued and is expected to survive, but a second man was not immediately located and a search and rescue operation was initiated.

Using rescue boats, sonar, infrared devices and drone technology, agencies tried to find the man in the water, but could not. At about 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, the rescue mission was suspended due to lighting and conditions, the Fire Department said.

The search resumed just before 6 a.m. on Sunday, this time with the addition of a rescue dive team, SF Fire said. The man was not located by noon, and the search was again suspended.

No further information about this rescue operation is being released at this time.
