OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Are you interested in a free home? One sitting on the property of Children's Hospital Oakland is up for grabs.

The cute little white house has a couple bedrooms and even has a lemon tree out front. But if it sounds too good to be true, well, in this case it is.

The free house will still cost you a lot of money. That's because if you want it, you have to be willing to move it. We mean literally lift it from its foundation and then haul it off the property

Right now it belongs to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. It's used as a trauma office and sits on the corner of 52nd Street and MLK Jr. Way.

The hospital has an expansion project planned, so the house will have to be demolished.

A spokesperson tells ABC7 News there's a sentimental story behind the home, similar to the Pixar movie "Up."

She says the owner refused to sell for years. His parents built the house more than 80 years ago when there was nothing there and it was just an empty lot. Then buildings started popping up, but the owner wouldn't budge. The hospital was able to purchase the property after that man died.

Hospital staff has a special connection to the house and hope somebody will save it.

In fact, they will even throw in $20,000 to help with the move

For those interested, officials say the best thing to do is call the hospital's main number. They say that soon they'll have a more streamlined process to help find the house a new home.
