San Francisco's Salesforce Tower becomes tallest building on West Coast
It's official. The Salesforce Tower became San Francisco's tallest building. The iconic Transamerica Pyramid building has been the tallest structure in the city for 43 years.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- It's official. The Salesforce Tower became San Francisco's tallest building.

The iconic Transamerica Pyramid building has been the tallest structure in the city for 43 years.

"In the first quarter of 2017, we will top out the structure at its total height 1070 feet, becoming the tallest office building West of Chicago," explained Robert Kain who is working on the Salesforce Tower.

It's part of the transformation of the ever-growing city skyline. The finished office building will be the center-piece of a new South of Market neighborhood that also includes the new Transbay Terminal.

Both are scheduled to open late next year.

The Salesforce Tower will be 1,070 feet. The Transamerica building is 853 feet And the former Bank of America Center stands at 779 feet.
