SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) -- ABC7's 24th annual Give Where You Live Thanksgiving food drive is helping Bay Area food banks serve those in our community who aren't sure if they have enough food for themselves or their families.

ABC7 News Weather Anchor Spencer Christian was at Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa on Monday with a look at just how critical this holiday campaign is.

In Sonoma County, 28 percent of the 82,000 who need help are children. And at Redwood Empire Food Bank, every $1 donation equals two meals to help feed those kids.

On Monday, students with Sonoma Country Day School worked tirelessly to help with the food packaging effort at Redwood Empire Food Bank.

"These meals are distributed through two of our main distribution programs. They make it to seniors and working families in our community," said Redwood Empire Food Bank Development Officer Hillary Jarcik. "Two-thousand meals each and every month are created in this kitchen by a team of dedicated volunteers.

If you'd like to help, text the word FEED to number 80077 to donate $10 to Bay Area food banks. When prompted, reply with YES to confirm the donation and have it added to your phone bill.
