SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Here's an alarming finding. A new study says specialists frequently misdiagnose breast biopsies.

According to researchers at the University of Washington Medical School, breast biopsies are good at telling the difference between healthy tissue and cancer.

However, with some types of pre-cancerous cells, their accuracy was no better than a coin toss.

It is not clear why. But, researchers say the errant information can lead to either too-aggressive treatment or under-treatment.
