Bay Area fertility doctor hosts egg freezing parties

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- There are jewelry parties, painting parties, and now egg freezing parties.

The idea was just launched by an East Bay fertility doctor. It gives women a chance to find out more about their reproductive options in a casual setting.

There are drinks, food and plenty of conversation. But talk at the party on Tuesday night was all about fertility and egg freezing.

Tuesday was the second in a series of parties launched by reproductive specialist, Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh. Her nickname is "the egg whisperer."

"I want to prevent the heartbreak that infertility may cause for a lot of women," Eyvazzadeh said.

She's getting women to talk about their options, their bodies, and their futures. It's a conversation that's easier to have now that both Facebook and Apple recently announced coverage for female employees who opt to freeze their eggs.

Working women filled the party. Many of their questions involved cost, managing busy schedules, and risks.

"I'm 40 years old and I don't know if it's even available or if it's healthy for an older lady," Union City resident Terri Rodan said.

"As a career woman, I'm around this age of reproduction and I don't know if I'm ready yet and I think it's a kind of an insurance policy for the future," San Francisco resident Wanda Lee said.

Wendy Messman, 37, of Danville has already made her decision. She said, "I have other friends that have done it, all lawyers and other professionals and it seems like the right thing to do."

Having access to information on egg freezing is important, which is why Eyvazzadeh is hosting egg freezing parties all over the Bay Area.

She was in San Francisco Monday night and in the East Bay on Tuesday. The first week of December she'll host a party in San Jose.
