SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A family member of the victim is offering new insight into Monday evening's fatal officer-involved shooting in San Jose.

San Jose police were called to a house on Feller Avenue, near Story Road just before 5 p.m. A family member at the scene tells ABC7 News that sometime after the cops arrived, an officer shoot an 18-year-old man.

He says his nephew who was shot and killed. He also says his nephew was depressed and had tried to kill himself before police arrived.

Police have not said why they fired on the man. A witness, visiting family in the neighborhood, described what he heard and saw after police arrived.

"We heard two gunshots, they sounded like high powered rifles. Somebody was screaming and saw one man in the back of a police car banging his head on the window," said Rickey Salinas, a witness.

He and other neighbors agree that this was a rare occurrence for this typically quiet neighborhood.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
