SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The Bernal Scream Haunted House is the brain child of Abe and Mike Barrera.

They invested their life savings, $100,000 into this crazy, scary Halloween haunt in San Jose at the Westfield Oakridge Mall. But the bouts of bad luck just keep on coming.

"There's clips and lock clips and locks on the side, they came in and took all that off," explained Mike.

On Wednesday, thieves broke in and stole speakers, cables, ruined their sound system and destroyed property. Saturday morning, they came back - but security guards scared them away.

"We have thousands of dollars in this show and it's sad someone would come to take that from us," said Mike.

"We're scared since it was a second attempt, hopefully there won't be a third," said Abe.

The Barreras are increasing security, but things still aren't looking good. Tickets sales are already down and now recovering financially after the burglary may be too much. The family isn't sure if they can afford to do it again next year.

"It's sad. They're doing this for the kids, it's fun, there's not many haunted houses around," said Lorynn Rainieri, a Morgan Hill resident.

"It's really disappointing, unfortunate," said Mike McCormick, who also lives in the area.

The community is also rallying. A GoFundMe account has been created to help cover some of the repairs and they're hoping more people come out through the weekend to show their support.

"We have this whole group that are coming at 20 bucks a pop, that's completely worthwhile," said Bryan Matoba.

Bernal Scream ends Halloween night.
