Travelers pack SFO for airport's busiest day of the year

SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KGO) -- SFO says this day has become the busiest day of the year for the airport, and it was already crowded at 4:30 this morning.

Some travelers were caught off guard when they saw the crowds but one woman said she learned this lesson the hard way last year. She showed up the Friday before Thanksgiving to find a line of people out the door. She missed her flight. Today she gave herself a lot of extra time.

An SFO spokesperson says the airport will handle about 15,000 more travelers today than on a typical Friday. He says this trend started a few years ago when schools started taking the whole week off for the Thanksgiving holiday.
