Many people may enjoy watching TV in a favorite chair - maybe a recliner. An East Bay woman is sitting in hers, thanks to 7 On Your Side.

Many people may enjoy watching TV in a favorite chair - maybe a recliner. An East Bay woman is sitting in hers, thanks to 7 On Your Side.

Joan Brown bought the latest, greatest recliner with power controls that lets customers adjust the chair in multiple ways. It was super comfortable for a few months. But then it stopped working and the store wouldn't take it back.

She used to have two recliners with a handy power controller.

"You incrementally recline, the footrest came up. It was just cool," Brown said.

However, one day she pressed the buttons on one of the chairs and nothing moved.

"I would press another button and nothing happened," sahe said.

She says it was barely four months old, so she called La-Z-Boy.

"I figured somebody would come out, fix it, thank you. That didn't happen."

She says months later, a technician did come out, but he told her what she already knew. "He said the wand isn't working," she said.

He returned later and installed a new controller wand, but the chair still wouldn't recline.

"He said they're gonna have to pick up the chair and send it back to chair heaven and fix it. I said I want a new chair. He said they don't do that. They don't give new chairs," said Brown.

She then called customer service.

La-Z-Boy confirmed it could not replace the chair, telling Brown that they don't accept returned merchandise after three days.

Brown contacted 7 On Your Side, who called La-Z-Boy.

At first, the company offered her another power controller, but Brown wanted a new chair that is not electric.

La-Z-Boy replaced the chair with one that reclines the old fashioned way.

The company said: "La-Z-Boy is committed to customer satisfaction and doing what's right to ensure the customer is happy. Unfortunately, in this instance, there were some communication issues that caused the repair process to take longer than usual. However, to help rectify the situation, Ms. Brown recently visited our store and re-selected a new chair. She has shared that she is happy with the resolution. "

Delighted at the outcome, Brown said, "Its 7 On Your Side's chair. You guys all have to come over and sit in the chair and have wine."
