MODESTO, Calif. (KGO) -- A small plane in the Central Valley crashed without ever leaving the ground.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a possible plane down this afternoon at the Modesto airport.

They discovered the aircraft's owners were working on the small, propeller plane when it was accidentally started.

The FAA says the plane hit a car, then rolled into a fence.

A small fuel leak caused by the crash was quickly contained. No one was inside the plane at the time.
