ABC7's Beyond the Headlines with Cheryl Jennings: Veterans in the Bay Area
This episode of "Beyond the Headlines" talks about Veterans in the Bay Area and how the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs helps veterans as they transition after service.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Each week we examine stories that affect people who live and work in the Bay Area.

This episode of "Beyond the Headlines" talks about Veterans in the Bay Area and how the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs helps veterans as they transition after service. We also discuss local organizations that are focused on helping veterans achieve success.

Since the year 2000, over 2.8 million of the nation's 18.9 million veterans have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). That's about 16% of our country's veteran population. In 2014, about 9.1 million veters were enrolled in VA-provided healthcare.

Our guests talk about the transition back to civilian life, post-traumatic stress disorder, veterans homelessness, and valuable resources available to help veterans face their struggles.
