7 On Your Side's Michael Finney honored by Chico State

CHICO, California (KGO) -- 7 On Your Side's Michael Finney was one of eight honorees who received the distinguished alumni award at Chico State Friday.

Michael graduated from the school's information and communication studies program.

"My professors and classmates here at Chico, look I'm getting emotional about it, gave me the chance to learn what it takes to be a good reporter, curiosity, fairness, accuracy, a passion for the truth"

He says he has enormous gratitude for his years at Chico State.

ABC7 news anchor Dan Ashley tweeted a picture of Michael with his wife and their two kids.

Dan was with Michael in Chico and called him "his dear friend and colleague."
