Ceremony held in Sacramento to honor officers killed in line of duty
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Bagpipes played as men and women of the badge stood at attention on Monday, paying respects to officers killed in the line of duty.
Governor Brown joined about 4,500 officers at the state capitol for the ceremony. "Officers are out there every day as the expression of our law, which is at the heart of a democracy and the free country and the state that we are," he said.
The California Peace Officers Memorial Foundation sponsored Monday's ceremony to honor the 15 police, sheriffs and highway patrol officers who were killed on duty this past year.
Their names will be etched in bronze at the Peace Officers Memorial monument located across the street from the state capitol.
