SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The Navy commissioned its newest amphibious assault ship, the USS America, Fleet Week on Saturday morning.

It's is designed to maximize the Navy's capability to fly just about anywhere. It can hold more than 30 aircraft including the MV-22 Osprey helicopter and the F-35B fighter. It's also big enough to store equipment and vehicles.

The commissioning ceremony started at 10 a.m. at Pier 30 and Pier 32 in San Francisco.

On Friday, hundreds of people watched as Navy ships escorted by the city fire department and US Coast Guard sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge and into the bay.

All the ships will host public tours this weekend. However, the highlight of Fleet Week is always the Blue Angels, whose air shows draw tens of thousands of people each year.

If you can't make it to San Francisco to see the Blue Angels' Fleet Week air show, you can watch it on our live stream today at 3 p.m.
