VALLEJO, Calif. (KGO) -- A couple who experienced an important milestone on one of the rides at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo shared a bittersweet moment Sunday.

Sunday is the final day for the Roar roller coaster. Carol and Michael Valenti won a radio contest to have a VJ marry them on a ride.

The couple said their vows during the wooden coaster's opening year back in 1999, with 20 of their guests on board.

The Valentis spent Sunday at the park to commemorate their wedding on the ride's closing day.

"They pronounced us man and wife at the top of the first hill and we went down," Carol Valenti said. "It's been like that ever since. Life has been a roller coaster."

The roller coaster is closing to make room for future expansion at the park.

The last ride on roar was set for 7 p.m. and the last riders will be Six Flags team members who worked at the park when the ride opened in 1999.
