Luck runs out for lottery hot spot in San Lorenzo

SAN LORENZO, Calif. (KGO) -- Luck seems to have run out for a liquor store that's known as a lottery hot spot. Several people have become millionaires after buying a ticket at Kavanagh Liquors in San Lorenzo.

At Kavanagh Liquors, if you could put a price on luck, it'd be right.

"It's a lucky store," said employee Johnna McDaniel.

These days spirits are 50 percent off, but people there are cashing in on something else.

"I've been winning for days. On Daily 3 I won $489," said Andralynn Long.

From hundreds, to millions, past big Lotto winners are prominently displayed inside the store.

"The property was sold. The new owners have an idea and they want us gone," said employee Johnna McDaniel.

No one at the store seems to know what's next. "Talk of the town, Trader Joes," McDaniel said.

"Probably apartments, I think," another person said.

Before the new tenant moves in, loyal customers and first-timers are making sure they get in and cash in.

"We need a big bang before we go," McDaniel said.

And there's no shortage of dollars and dreams before they do. Kavanagh Liquors will close November 30, but based on foot traffic inside the store everything could sell out before then.
