Researchers keeping close eye on peregrine falcon chicks in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A research team will be keeping a close eye on some of the newest tenants at a well-known building in San Francisco.

Researchers from UC Santa Cruz placed tracking bands on three young peregrine falcons that hatched high atop PG&E's headquarters near Market Street in San Francisco.

The perch on the 33rd floor has been a favored nesting spot for a pair of the birds over the past decade.

"The first year that they were here, they fledged from the north side of the building. They opened their wings, they floated up to the roof and everything went fine. Since then, we've seen all kinds of fledglings," UC Santa Cruz' Glenn Stewart said.
