SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Some needy families received a holiday surprise from San Jose's bravest Thursday morning.

The fire department, hook and ladder truck escorted 33 frozen turkeys to Sacred Heart Community Services.

Why 33? That's one turkey for each of San Jose's 33 fire stations.

Those turkeys will help fill the holiday food boxes that Sacred Heart gives to families in need.

The charity will give out 3,200 food boxes in all, along with 17,000 toys.

Sacred Heart has served San Jose for the past 50 years.
