SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Lots of community organizations around the Bay Area opened their doors to people in need on Thursday.

Saint Anthony's in San Francisco served up nearly 5,000 pounds of turkey and 1,000 pounds of stuffing.

Glide Memorial Church served about 5,000 meals with all the fixings. They served breakfast as well as dinner, along with a Thanksgiving Day celebration led by Reverend Cecil Williams.

Anyone willing to wait in line got a free meal at one of Mountain View's top restaurants, Don Giovanni.

For the past 25 years, the owner of Don Giovanni has been opening up the restaurant on Thanksgiving and giving away free turkey dinners.

About 1,500 people took him up on the offer.
