Cleveland, San Francisco firefighters bet on NBA Finals

CLEVELAND (KGO) -- The Warriors will try to even the series Thursday night against the Cavaliers in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. They lost Tuesday night in Cleveland 96-91.

The Dubs desperately need a victory to avoid a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven series.

No team has ever come back to win the championship after being down 3-1 in NBA Finals history.

Something else to think about is that the Warriors have never lost three games in a row all season.

There have been a lot of wagers made on this series, including one between firefighters.

In Cleveland, they know Station 7 as the "basketball firehouse" - city champs four years running behind Marty Boland.

They have made a finals bet against their brethren in San Francisco.

When asked if he knew the firefighters in San Francisco, Cleveland firefighter Mike Persciado said, "No, not at all. Not one of them."

T-shirt bets are a fire tradition, apparently, and 40 shirts are at stake.

If San Francisco loses, they send shirts to Cleveland. If Cleveland loses, it goes the other way.

"We've never given them away. We have always received them in all our bets," firefighter Marty Boland said.

But hopefully not this year.

ABC7 News caught up with the crew at Station 7 in San Francisco for the other side of the bet.

Although the Warriors are trailing, they're not nervous. They've seen it before. "We were down 2-1 to Memphis so this is not unfamiliar territory for the Warriors. Basketball is a game of changes and I think we just have some adjustments to make and I'm confident the Warriors are going to do that," Lt. Duane Curry said.

Curry -- yes, that is his name -- is confident his station will be sporting new shirts by the end of next week.
