Broncos coach talks about player swept up in prostitution sting

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- An Oakland native, who was with the Broncos and in the Bay Area for the Super Bowl, has been sent home to Denver. Ryan Murphy was questioned in relation to a prostitution sting in San Jose Tuesday night. He was not arrested.

It seems like every Super Bowl a player from one team or another gets in trouble and causes a distraction to their team. This year it's Broncos practice squad rookie Ryan Murphy.

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak addressed his decision to send Murphy back home after being detained by police investigating a prostitution ring.

Kubiak said Wednesday, "We've moved on. We dealt with it yesterday. Obviously, disappointed for the young man but we're focused on what we have to do football-wise, we're going to work with our meetings, getting in our routine. We've moved on."

Members of the Human Trafficking Task Force followed one woman from a room at a Motel 6 in San Jose to a car waiting outside. That is where Murphy and his brother were sitting. Murphy was detained, questioned and released. His brother was cited for trafficking.

Murphy grew up in Oakland, attended Oakland Technical High School and played at Oregon State. He has yet to play a snap in the NFL.

Authorities have cited 10 men in several prostitution stings in the past week.

Compared to a lot of Super Bowls, this has been relatively calm.
