BERKELEY, Calif. (KGO) -- College game day in Berkeley brought in a flood of blue and gold. Thousands of Bears and Bruins fans filled Memorial Stadium for the match up.

A clash of Northern and Southern California at Memorial Stadium Saturday, pitting Bear against Bruin.

"It's always been a great rivalry. They're the baby bears and we're the original bears so you've got to love that," said Cal fan Lisa Wastila.

Before the game, Bears fans feasted, storing up energy for the battle ahead.

These fans have been tailgating together for 32 seasons with Bear claw sized burgers. They don't mess around.

"Good friends, good food and good football, that's what we all say," said Cal fanTodd Marentis.

A vehicle decked out in blue and gold had the license plate "Au Oso." That's French for "the Bear."

Others flipped through spirit wear and then modeled their team appreciation.

Bruins fans also swarmed downtown Berkeley.

"Anytime between northern and southern California, Giants and the Dodgers, it's going to be a big game," said UCLA fan Doug Miller.

Many UCLA students were still a little tired from the road trip north, but found it worth it to cheer on the Bruins.

"It's kinda one of those things you just have to do as UCLA students, huge rivalry, a lot of people coming out. We're really excited," said UCLA student Jacqueline Adams.

After double checking tickets and a quick photo with the Golden Bear, everyone entered the stadium hoping for a win.
