Coach Sonny Dykes has agreed in principle to a contract extension with Californiathrough the 2019 season, the school announced Thursday.

The deal, which will average $2.825 million over the next four years, still requires approval from the UC Board of Regents before it can become official. Dykes had two years remaining on a deal he signed before the 2013 season that paid him a base salary of $2 million annually.

When contacted by ESPN.com Wednesday afternoon, Cal spokesman Wes Mallette could not confirm a deal was in place.

"We're close," he said.

Fox Sports also reported on Wednesday that a deal was imminent.

Cal went 7-5 this year and will play Air Force in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN. The Bears went 1-11 and 5-7 in Dykes' first two seasons in Berkeley.
