OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The Super Bowl is known for its advertising from legendary TV commercials to the giant ads covering whole buildings. Now, there's one more place you'll start seeing ads in the coming days: The sky.

Some Cessna planes have had a few modifications with extra hooks and levers to hold a banner made to be read from 1,000 feet below.

Ever since the 1920s, airborne advertising hasn't changed too much. But for the Super Bowl, Oakland-based Aerial Beacon is planning a few surprises. "I'm kind of picturing a Rose Bowl parade of third objects floating over the city. If the artists do this right, that could be something really neat," Aerial Beacon pilot John Favors said.

There will be 10 planes all in a line with some towing huge corporate logos and others with banners for local businesses.

For Aerial Beacon, the Super Bowl payoff will be sweet.

But they're sharing the victory. They'll give some of the proceeds to local charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation who they've worked with before on another momentous event.
