SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- In the last month, San Jose Earthquakes defender Jason Hernandez has experienced one of life's ultimate highs and also one of its ultimate lows.

In the middle of May, he lost his father to a 14-year-long battle with cancer. At the same time, he was lucky enough to marry his wife on Father's Day.

Hernandez has had a lot of ups and downs, but he's also had a lot of support.

"I'm very fortunate to have a lot of support, a lot of great family and friends, and so it's been a memorable month for good and bad reasons, but more good than bad," he said.

Hernandez and the rest of the Earthquakes are now preparing for the California Clasico on June 28 against the LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium.

"The Clasico has been kind of a staple of our season, you know, for the past couple years," Hernandez said. "And anytime we play those guys, it's a very spirited match and it's a battle and it's, you know, a lot of fireworks -- literally and figuratively -- so you know we're looking forward to it."
