Alameda County employees build elaborate food displays to inspire giving
ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- Alameda County employees have found a creative way to inspire the spirit of giving this holiday season. They're building imaginative displays made from cans, boxes and bags of donated food.
The displays focus on the themes of hunger and helping others and are being shown in county buildings over the next few weeks.
They're the focus of Alameda County's Fifth Annual Stone Soup Holiday Food Drive and Design Competition, which has sparked giving by county employees who donated more than 10 tons of non-perishable food and $1,100 in cash to help the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
Displays this year include "Garden of Hope" and "Tree of Promise" built by the Probation Department. Also among the displays is a "Pac-Man" themed creation by the Information Technology Department and a pair of showpieces thanking first responders for their help fighting the North Bay wildfires.
The Alameda County Board of Supervisors will present awards for the most creative displays and most donations raised on December 19.
