SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Travelers hopping on a plane Tuesday are facing a wet commute and some minor delays at Bay Area airports, including San Francisco International Airport.

If you're traveling, check FlightAware for a report on the latest delays. At one point Tuesday morning, the website was reporting SFO had at least 104 delays, Oakland was experiencing at least 20 delays and San Jose experienced about 12 delays.

And the region is expected to get rain throughout the afternoon, so problems could stack up as the day goes on.

It was also a lot more exciting getting out of the car at SFO as the rain caused people to cut their goodbyes at the curb a little shorter.

But it didn't necessarily mean the commute to the airport was longer. "Traffic was alright actually, not too bad. It was actually pretty smooth," traveler Yonas Tesfai said.

SFO is one of the busiest airports in the nation, with about 120,000 passengers arriving and departing on a normal day.

On Tuesday, officials estimate they expect to see about 134,000 passengers and on Wednesday they expect at least 150,000.

But these aren't even the busiest days for the holiday travel season. Those days are the Friday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

It's not the number of people today, but the number of weather delays for short and medium flights that may cause a few headaches for holiday travelers.

By mid-morning dozens of incoming and outgoing flights were delayed about an average of 30 minutes. "Typically when we have weather the delays are more compounding as the day goes on," SFO spokesman Doug Yakel said.

Yakel said the good news about the delays is they should not impact international flights or flights to the East Coast.
